The semester just wrapped up at UWRF. This month interns Cierra Kirkwood and Marlee Dietrich graduated, and our newest intern Lucas Webb started. Lucas is majoring in Conservation and Environmental Planning and minoring in Crop Science. He just finished his first year at UWRF and wants to work at the intersection of natural resource management and agriculture. He will be assisting with the well-testing program and also working on the new DATCP-funded project experimenting with commercial nitrogen application rates.
After another week of training, we will begin organizing for our late spring round of well sampling. Members can expect a call from Lucas or Dr. Jill in the coming weeks to schedule a visit to collect samples from all wells on their farms.
The deep snowpack and long spring this year lead to a lot of water moving down into soils across the region. We collected more water from the lysimeters this spring than last year. We are interested to see if all of the infiltration this spring shows up in the well results this year.
