When:1-3p.m. Thursday, October 14
Topic: As part of its ongoing cooperation with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), the WWCC is hosting a field day featuring Dr. Veronica Justen of the Crop Science Department. Dr. Justen is studying cover crops, including optimal timings, species and introduction methods.
In early August 2021, with support from Albert Lea Seed, she and her team planted six types of cover crops (winter rye, Austrian winter field peas, tillage radishes, and three grass mixes created by Albert Lea) at the UWRF's Mann Valley farmstead. Varieties were chosen because of their ability to scavenge nitrogen, ability to hold soil in place and because they are cost-effective.
Join us from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, to tour the fields, hear a short presentation by Dr. Justen and network with fellow farmers.
All are welcome.
